Where is Mold Found?

Mold can grow nearly anywhere and on almost any form of dead organic matter, as long as moisture and oxygen are present. Mold contamination commonly occurs
in buildings that have suffered water damage and mold growth can become a severe issue if the moisture problem remains undiscovered or unaddressed for a significant length of time.

Mold spores are present in the air most of the time. However when these spores contact with moisture, they begin growing and digesting whatever they are growing on. Gradually, mold will destroy anything it is found growing on.

Mold in buildings and commercial facilities typically occurs when moisture builds up in a sealed area without adequate ventilation. Problems that can cause moisture to build up and lead to mold contamination include:

  • Leaky roofs or pipes

  • Flooding or water damage

  • Unvented combustion appliance

  • Insufficient maintenance and upkeep

  • Humidity
